Elite Training has one, and two-day options for Confined Space training, Gas Testing, and basic Confined Space Rescue. We impart knowledge and awareness of hazards through our confined space course, to ensure a person can safely set up and work within a confined Space (some call these “restricted spaces, or limited spaces”). Our training and procedures become effective assets to any team working in confined spaces.
Basic Confined Space Course: $295.00 + GST
Full Confined Space Course: $550.00 + GST
COURSE AIM
Trainees will understand the dangers and how to make their work as safe as possible. They also understand what controls and measures to put in place. Our confined space training focuses on improving safety standards for workers in confined space environments. Not only safety, but work rate and productivity have also improved.
This is due to our comprehensive training for confined spaces in NZ. We combine knowledge of confined space equipment along with its limitations. Accordingly, workers trust their equipment more and can focus on their work. Please continue reading for more in-depth information:
Basic Confined Space Course
This is our one-day course. It covers Unit Standard 18426 – Demonstrate Knowledge of Hazards Associated with Confined Spaces. The cost is $295 + GST (including NZQA credits).
Unit Standard 25510 – Operate a Gas Testing Device to Determine a Suitable Atmosphere Exists to Work Safely can be added. Trainees are advised that it makes for a very full day. The cost is $340 + GST (including NZQA credits).
Full Confined Space Course
- 18426 – Demonstrate Knowledge of Hazards Associated with Confined Spaces
- 25510 – Operate a Gas Testing Device to Determine a Suitable Atmosphere Exists to Work Safely
- 17599 – Plan a Confined Space Entry
The entire course costs $550 + GST (including NZQA credits).
Our courses for working in confined spaces in NZ cover the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015, associated regulations, Safe Work in Confined Spaces (AS2865:2009), and how these all fit together, for example:
- Methods of entry and exit into confined spaces.
- Confined space restrictions and their effect on patient recovery in an incident.
- Types of gases found in common confined spaces (for example, sewers, tanks, silos, pits, process vessels, etc.)
- Hazards associated with gas testing over gas monitoring.
- Suspension trauma and its effects on the human body.
- Duties of safety personnel and the risks associated with these tasks.
- Isolation of confined space hazards (lockout methods) versus minimisation (use of PPE and breathing apparatus).
- The courses also cover a wide range of equipment associated with confined space work and its appropriate use and maintenance.
- The need for a rescue plan when working in confined spaces and their basic requirements.
Practical Component
The one-day Confined Space Hazards course only has a short practical component.
The two-day course has a more thorough practical component where trainees complete several confined space entries.
The practical component covers visually checking the confined space (externally) to ensure that the trainee’s plan is practical. The trainee will then:
- Check for safety, fit, and work in a confined space harness.
- Design and set up a basic entry and exit method from a confined space.
- Gas-test the environment.
- Safely enter and exit the confined space.
- Gas monitor throughout the confined space entry
Rescue simulations and scenarios are run. These show the methods to conduct a rescue. Please do get in touch with Elite Training about your confined space training needs and certification.
